With senior photos, I always try to tell a story. Their story. I recently had the opportunity to photograph Zayden from Willow Canyon High School whose personality and passions were on full display in every frame during not one, not two, but in all three of the separate sessions we had. From a sun-drenched park to a dramatic studio setup to the heart of his basketball court, the sessions were all about allowing him to be himself to celebrate this once in a lifetime moment.
Session one: Sahuaro Ranch Park
Our first session was Sahuaro Ranch Park, a location known for its rich textures, open fields and historic buildings. On this particular day, we were greeted by a folk music festival, so we had some entertainment to go with the session. Zayden, being more of a rap and hip-hop fan, impressed me with some of his freestyle skills. The stark contrast between his beats and the festival's music made for a fun experience for all.

Session two: Studio vibes - clean, bold and all about him
Next, we headed to my home studio, where I put up a clean, blue backdrop to match his school's colors and focus entirely on him. Sessions like these always make for a great way to let seniors loosen up a bit and not feel so awkward because no one else will be around and won't feel as self-conscious.
The simplicity of the backdrop allowed for bold portraits that really made him pop. He also incorporated his love for the game of basketball during this session, giving me a little glimpse of what to expect in our next one.
When we wrapped up the studio session, we noticed the incredible sunset we were being blessed with, so we raced over to an open field to snag a few photos. You'll find one of the photos we got below : )

Session three: Home court advantage at Willow Canyon High School
a few weeks later we met up for session number three at Willow Canyon High School, a place that holds deep meaning for the young man. It's the place he's called home for the past four years and the basketball court we took photos at is where he has bled and sweat for his team during that time. As a dedicated athlete, this is where he has spent countless hours, so we were both extremely excited for this day.
Using my off-camera flashes, we got creative with the lighting and used interesting angles to capture both action and quiet, powerful portraits in the empty gym. You could see the connection to this space. Every image told a story of hard work, ambition and school pride.

In Conclusion
These sessions are a great example of why I love senior photography. Bringing out the unique story of every senior in a way that's personal and bold. With three locations, we were able to capture the many sides of who Zayden is. Class of 2025 is all wrapped up so it's your turn 2026. If you want me to capture your many sides to celebrate this wild, crazy and fun year you are about to have then contact me now to get it in going. I'm a senior photographer in Phoenix, Arizona but I serve the entire state (and beyond if you want). Let's do this!
